Review; Across The Universe by Beth Revis

Across the Universe - Beth Revis
(Isn't the new cover GORGEOUS?)
Description; Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone--one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship--tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

Review;
Across the Universe is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated 2011 releases in the young adult spectrum. Despite the huge hype already, Beth Revis did not disappoint! With the series set to be a trilogy, I don’t know how I’ll ever survive until the next one…

From the very first sentence, Across the Universe is enrapturing. We’re introduced to Amy, a girl with human hopes and dreams and a burning need to remain connected to her humanity. Despite her desire to remain on Earth, her family loyalty pulls her into an icy coffin where she finds herself frozen, levitating between memories and nightmares, for hundreds of years.

That is, until she’s violently awoken in a murder attempt. On a foreign ship amidst people who speak, behave and govern strangely, Amy believes herself alone.

As a reader, I found it incredibly hard not to side with Amy, and found myself just as passionate about justice and change as she was. She was caught in a world that was not only largely removed from everything she knew; but a world corrupted. Amongst this corruption is Elder, the future leader of the ship Amy is traveling upon, Godspeed. His character lit up the pages and it was completely impossible not to fall in love with the guy. Even though romance and human connection is nearly extinct amongst humans of this time, Elder found independence in his sweet actions that separated himself from the rest of the ship’s population.

The concept was absolutely fascinating and the twists and turns embedded in the plot will make you gasp while tugging at your heart. Certainly not a book to be missed!

Across the Universe will reel you in as though you, too, were frozen and helpless. With colourful characters, sensational concept and hypnotic writing, Revis makes a charming debut.
